Data retention period

For security, GOV.UK Notify only keeps a temporary record of:

  • the content of the emails, text messages and letters you send
  • recipient email addresses, mobile numbers and addresses

By default, we delete this data after 7 days.

Once the data has been deleted, we cannot retrieve it.

How to download a report of your sent messages

  1. Go to the dashboard.
  2. Select emails sent, text messages sent or letters sent.
  3. Select Download this report (CSV).

We strongly recommend that you do this on a regular basis.

How to change your data retention period

  1. Go to the Settings page.
  2. Select Change on the Data retention period row.

You can choose anything between 3 and 90 days.
